Monuments and interesting places
Located on the corner of street Cordovez with Cienfuegos, in the city center. It was inaugurated in 1946. It has a stone portal dating from 1820, which belonged to the main entrance of the Casa del Conde Villaseñor. The museum comprises rooms Chilean archeology pieces from cultures "Diaguitas" and "Molle". Also, inside the museum you will find an anthropological and historical library, which preserves from former colonial manuscripts to newspapers published early twentieth century in the area.
Historic House Gonzalez Videla
At Calle Matta # 495 Cordovez corner. Adobe house and two apartments built by Jose Viera in 1980. It was built in the same area where the house re founder Serena, Francisco de Aguirre was. He declared a National Monument in 1981. It is characterized by its two-story building and two houses ornate courtyards. It was occupied by the family of former Eying of the Republic and serenense Don Gabriel Gonzalez Videla. Here also operates the Museum of Regional History President Gabriel Gonzalez Videla that was created in 1984 and divided into sections: life and work of the president, regional history, Oscar Prager art gallery and exhibition hall. The museum includes several rooms where valuable documents "Plan Serena" is displayed, and the life and work of Don Gabriel Gonzalez Videla.
In the middle of the city it is presented as the main public walk Serena. It was the place where the city San Bartolomé de la Serena was refounded on August 26, 1549. In its center is a large fountain carved in stone by the artist Samuel Román (National Art Prize, 1964).
Municipal Market is the city. Recova you will find a craft fair with a wide range of products. In addition, there you will find a wide gastronomic offer. The new Recova was built in the early '80s to modern neo-colonial style interpretation. Its two courtyards are intended to craft, on the second floor there are restaurants and foreign local food are sold.
It was built during the Plan Serena and was the milestone that marked the arrival of the long beach. It is located by the sea to the west of Avenida Francisco Aguirre. This work is merely decorative, ideal for a sunset.
At Calle Matta Nº331. It was built in the mid-nineteenth century by the British architect David James. It has an original antetecho decorated by a small semicircular arches. It was declared a National Monument on February 12, 1981.
Casa Chadwick – Valdes
At Calle Los Carreras # 281. Built between 1865 and 1870 by Don Bartolo Varela. It retains all the original elements and structure itself has not been modified. Declared National Monument in 1981.
It stretches for 6 km along a beach lined with buildings, hotels and restaurants. It is the center of life in the summer.
