Cross of the Third Millennium
Built to mark the jubilee year 2002, this monument is located in El Vigia Hill in Coquimbo. Its structure consists of 93 meters, and is located 157 mts. above sea level. It is perched on the rock of the hill, overlooking the entire peninsula of Coquimbo with a panoramic view of 360 degrees. Its design was by architect Carlos Aguirre Mandiola. The Cross is made up of three independent bodies, emerging from an equilateral triangle from the rock, representing the holy trinity. At the first level the worship area, consisting of the main chapel, a museum and a photographic exhibition about the beginnings, design, construction and inauguration of the monument is located. On the second level a place dedicated to prayer, which are ten columns representing the Ten Commandments and a replica of the Pieta by Michelangelo bronze stands. On the third level is the first viewpoint to 20 meters, while the top floor is the Mirador de los Brazos, still the highest outdoor area place where you can get a panoramic view of the bay Coquimbo and La Serena to full height above sea level of 201 meters.
